An open circlet, torque-born—the ancient C-shape of adornment that predates clasp and hinge. The band rises in a continuous arc before breaking off, deliberately unfinished, as though the smith paused mid-thought. The gap reads not as absence but as invitation.
Cast from a silver alloy heavier than pewter and aged past the vanity of polish, the surface holds no pretense of shine. Worked rather than plated, the metal shows a topography of erosion: pitted, cratered, freckled with dark oxidation pooling in its recesses like sediment. Under raking light it reveals a bark-like roughness, uneven against jewelry-counter smoothness. There is no clasp, no hinge, no chain—the tension of the open band is its only mechanism, the metal's memory allowing it to spring open and grip closed again.
