SURFACE LANGUAGE

Y's — Yohji Yamamoto's original label, founded in 1972, predating both the mainline Yohji Yamamoto and Y's Pour Homme. This is the quieter end of the Yamamoto output: wearable cut, considered proportion, the same construction rigour as the runway pieces but built for daily wear. Grey long sleeve, slim through the chest at 78cm, extended length at 77cm.

The 73cm sleeve falls long on most wearers — Y's pieces typically sit slightly over-scaled in length across body and sleeve, which is part of the house signature. Y's in second-hand circulation holds its value because the mainline was built to a construction standard that survives years of wear, and because the quieter pieces are still unmistakably Yamamoto to anyone who knows the line.
