SURFACE LANGUAGE

A black tailored waistcoat chassis sculpted into an aggressively fitted silhouette with a pronounced notched lapel and a sharp, pointed V-shaped hem that bisects the torso into angular geometry. Five buttons of mismatched scale and material — some matte black, others rimmed in oxidized metal — march down the center front in deliberate asymmetry. The surface is colonized by large fabric flower appliqués positioned asymmetrically: clusters of cream, beige, black, and white blooms occupy the right shoulder, upper left chest, lower right quadrant, and base of the hem. Each flower is engineered from distinct textiles — heavy satin, open-weave mesh, raw cotton muslin, and delicate lace — creating a topographic landscape of texture. A vertical white lace trim runs down the right side like a trailing suture line. Small X-stitch marks punctuate the lower left panel. The overall effect is a collision between formal tailoring and organic overgrowth.
