OBJECT STUDY

Tubular brass rod bent into a rigid open cuff architecture. Two parallel vertical rails connect a upper and lower circular band, forming a skeletal cage structure that sits against the wrist. The brass carries a warm, uneven antique patina, deeper at the joints where oxidation has pooled in the solder points. A teardrop-form bone plaque is suspended centrally on a brass pin, pivoting between the rails. The face side presents a carved African mask motif: cream-white bone ground with blackened recessed lines describing elongated eye sockets, a narrow nasal ridge, and a compressed mouth form. The reverse shows raw, undecorated bone with visible surface grain and natural aging. The carving tradition references West African ceremonial mask iconography, reduced here to its most geometric reading.
