Dato' Sri Bernard Chandran — Malaysia's King of Fashion — has spent over three decades pushing the boundaries between couture and culture. Born of Indian and Chinese roots, trained in Paris, and rooted in Kuala Lumpur, his work has dressed royalty, Lady Gaga, and Olympic athletes. Area 27 was his answer to the question: what happens when fashion becomes a concept? Launched in 2011, it was his vision for a darker, more experimental edge — where structure challenges softness, and utility meets artistry.

SURFACE LANGUAGE

This jacket is that philosophy made tangible. A brutalist shell built not to impress, but to endure — carrying the same tension that defines Bernard's most provocative work: East meets West, tradition resists modernity, and craft outlasts trend.

The outer canvas is heavily coated, creating a rigid, armored form that holds its silhouette entirely off the body. Oversized industrial hardware punctuates the front closure — demanding physical engagement with the garment, as Bernard's work always has.
